On April 19th, IBISKA staff eagerly rolled up their sleeves and dug into the garbage emerging after a long winter near the Rideau River locks using bags for garbage disposal, compost, and recycling. IBISKA volunteers chose this touristy area around Parliament Hill/Major’s Hill as it was a central location that receives a lot of summer traffic from locals and tourists alike. As we all know, spring in Ottawa can look rather messy with garbage and dust accumulating over the winter between snow layers resurfacing. To address this concern, the Cleaning the Capital event was created and the environmentally conscious IBISKA team rose to the challenge with gloves, bags, brooms, and a plan of action.
